When it comes to expanding your scope of practice, it’s important to see how your new services will work together and which current clients will become cross over clients. In the world of Yoga, the Venn Diagram is a perfect circle!
Their knowledge of the body in movement is superior to the education massage therapists get. We may know more names of muscles, but yoga instructors know how that muscle works in relationship with the rest of the body.
Which leads to the next point. Yoga instructors are trained and experienced in seeing the body as a whole. They may more quickly identify if the root of an issue is the foot or the knee, because they see it move far more often.
Building relationships comes naturally to the yoga instructor. You want your students to keep coming back, and often they are loyal to a favorite instructor. This applies beautifully to massage, as we ask our clients to become very comfortable with us quickly.
Respect for ancient healing traditions. Massage is an ancient practice and there are different modalities from many different cultures. The ability to embrace and honor another culture is needed for both professions.
A huge missing piece in healing chronic tension patterns is strengthening. Yoga instructors are already doing what a lot of massage therapists need to be trained in. We can relax tight muscles all day, but if we aren’t strengthening what’s weak those problems continue to persist. Step into a well-rounded practice with a massage therapy license!
